Seems hard to believe. I rang Sky on the Monday afternoon and gave them the old story (true actually) Sky customer for many years with Sky HD, broadband etc. Told them my box was acting up.

I wasd told I could have a new box for £199 and a delivery charge. I said no I will cancel my subscription, OK said the girl I will put you through to our cacelation dept. I was kept on the line for 5 minutes and then gave up and hung up.

Monday night things were a bit different. I rang Sky again and spoke to a young Scots lad. I explained to him what I had said earlier in the day. Hang on Sir! I will see what I can do.

He came back and said I could have the 1Tb HD box delivered and fitted by an engineer this Saturday.!!!!!!! I asked him 3 times to confirm that this was a new Sky HD 1 tB BOX and he said it was.

So will just have to wait now till Saturday to see what happens.

I was told I could get the 1TB box as well, but they tend to call the regular box 1TB as it does have over a 1tb hdd I beleive, but most is reserved for anytime.

I would double check this, as I have never heard anyone getting this deal

Even if its a regular 1Tb box, I will be happy, as the old one is giving lots of problems. However we shall see at the end of the week.

The latest standard HD boxes have 500GB HDDs of which 50% is reserved for Sky/Anytime use as Andrew indicated above. The 1TB boxes, however, actually have 1.5TB HDDs fitted, of which 500GB is reserved for Sky/Anytime use, leaving 1TB for the user to record on.

My Sky box has been playing up for about 2 weeks , phoned last week and they went through the set up re-boot , ( my EPG has not been working ) and said it would be fine within 24 hours. It wasn't , so i phoned them lunchtime and explained i needed it looked at .

All quite reasonable i thought,,

Then they hit me with a £65 call out charge,,,

I was livid, said i pay £83.00 a month for a service and the service was not working because of there box!!!

Phoned back to cancel my package and they have relented and said they will replace the box free.

No 1tb HD Box offered though,

Might still cancel though, had no idea i was paying so much !!!

Lovefilm is starting to look attractive.

Seriously? You've never heard of LoveFilm? The most successful online movie rental/streaming company going? The one just last week bought out by Amazon, the one that advertises on TV and everything?

Dude, you need to stay in more!

Sorry m8,never heard of them, till now. Blockbusters is were I would normally rent from, but have not done that in a while. I normally just watch whats on Sky HD,or watch one of of my hundreds of films,I have not got around to checking out.

I bought Bladerunner when it first came out but have not had the time to watch it,and thats one of my fav films.

Will check out Lovefilm when I have time.......lol

Well the Sky man arrived nice and early on Sat morning. However no sign of the 1Tb box, just a new standard box. Obviously the guy at Sky lied to me as I asked him 4 times if I was getting the 1Tb box and he said yes four times.

However since I have never filled the hard drive on my old box,I will just keep it. It works well and has a warranty.

probably a case of him not knowing the difference as opposed to lieing to you... still though i know the feeling! the newer sky hd boxes are much smaller than the originals though and run quiet enough so i'm happy with the standard box to.. still though be nice if it had been the 1tb box.. it is nice and shinny and black

Hi,

If you are sure you were told a 1TB box was coming, phone back and refer them to their own recording of the conversation and ask them to play it back and honour the promise.

When you say a standard box - presume you mean the ordinary HD box and not the white digibox?

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

Totally agree, if they agreed to supply you a 1TB box (and charged you £29 for) then that's what you should have got!!!

Rang Sky,but they would not buy it,. They wanted £300 for the 1Tb box. I pointed out to them it was their mistake, but they only said they would be speaking to the employee who offered it to me.

Regardless of the box type did you have to enter into another 12 month contract?

Try emailing Mr Murdoch. Obviously, he won't read it, it'll be their director support team but it got me £150 off my first HD box after numerous delivery issues

Sky realised that people were cancelling subsciptions because their box was playing up so they automatically send out a new HD box whether you are signed up to HD or not.
