Hi,

niave question...so if hypothetically one owned the cambridge audio cxa60 which has an inbuilt DAC, or any DAC I guess, connecting the google chromecast audio device via the optical cable would mean that whatever was being cast would be handled bit perfect by the DAC? What would happened if you had music stored on your phone and you cast it via google music? Would the phone DAC of the google chromecast DAC handle the digital files?

thanks,

M

Just a guess but if the phone is casting it then the phones dac does not come into the equation, it would be the chromecasts dac that would be utilised.

Others, more knowledgeable, might correct me here.

That the last component on the end of the optical would handle the DAC duties....The phone would stream (or cast) whether directly or indirectly to the Chromecast, then the Chromecast outputs via optical (digital) into the DAC...that's my guess anyway.
