i bought a panasonic plasma from "d.i.d electrical waterford" in march , it was sent in for repair 2 weeks ago , as it wasnt too keen on starting ,turned out it was unrepairable , so the afore mentioned store gave me a credit note , which i used to get a heavily discounted samsung 46b650 lcd ,50 euros of my own money on top of the 950euros i was credited , a really good price ..

i picked up the tv last night , and after many many hours of trying to get used to it , having achieved a very good picture from all sources , i eventually accepted that a plasma was what suited me best , the better detail in dark scenes , and what i think to be a more natural looking picture being the reasons why ..

so i phoned the store this morning , and explained my position , the assistant manager , david , asked me why i went for lcd if plasma was my thing , and i told him that i couldnt afford the 46inch panasonic g10 1350euros , and didnt want to downsize to the 42inch , the sammy was the right size and price , but not the right tv for me ..

so , he said hed take back the lcd , and give me the 46inch g10 for an xtra 160euros , that works out at 1160euros for a tv that is no less than 1350euros anywhere i can see in ireland , thats what i call customer service , i wont look any further for my electrical needs in future , i now cant wait for my ideal tv to be delivered on wednesday , at a fantastic price ..

i could have bought my initial set online for less money , but im so glad i didnt , having such a good dealer to go back to after i encountered problems , and having been looked after so well , im delighted to have kept my business local , and if anyone asks me where to shop for A.V.in the future, i know where ill be sending them ...

yes it is , i recall mathewpiano often talking up the benefits of finding a reputable bricks and mortar dealer to do business with , and as far as im concerned hes right , there is no way pixmania or amazon could have been as understanding or helpful in this situation , and i wont forget it , electrical = d.i.d electrical for me from now on ....

That is excellent. I'm glad you've come to a good outcome maxflinn. There are plenty of independent dealers like the one you have encountered who take real pride in looking after the customer and, as you have discovered, that extra service makes all the difference if/when problems occur.

You see some of the difference is down to the fact that the better independents understand that they will stand or fall on the reputation they gain for their customer service and because the MD is usually around the shop on a daily basis everyone ends up caring. That is how our company works. We only run two Sony Centres and the MD is seen in one or other store on a daily basis. We all know how well business is going each day and, because we are treated with respect by him and because we all know that our jobs depend on his business being a success, we all take pride in making the company work to its full potential. Of course, we are also all passionate about the product which helps.

There are further examples of excellent independents on this very forum - Rick from Musicraft and Dave from Frank Harvey both show with great frequency how much knowledge and passion there is within the industry and its great when customers can benefit from this sort of approach.

cheers mathew , yes i certainly have learned the benefits of buying from a good independant , their prices are good too , as i say , in the future ill look no further , my mam needs a dishwasher and ill be taking her straight to d.i.d. tmw , plus , ill make sure and tell anyone who will listen about the service and value i was given ...

the only problem i have now is deciding on either keeping the lcd , which is growing on me steadily , or taking the plasma , and im very happy to have the dilemma ...

just a quick mention again for "d.i.d electrical" for any of my fellow irish forum readers , they couldnt have looked after me better , on service , price , and understanding , credit where credit is due ...
