Hi,

Did anyone see the above show? They did a 'blind' test on a Pioneer Kuro 50" and a Philips 47PFL5603D and a live person.

They set up 3 windows where 1 would show the live person (painted red) moving and static and the other 2 windows would hide each tv. The test was supposed to show if an expensive or cheap tv could come close to the live image. The live image was beamed via an HD Canon TV camera to each tv simultaneously with Jon and Jason watching from a sofa.

The Pioneer was given the nod ahead of the Philips - but it was obvious which tv was which as window 3 was clearly bigger than window 2 - as the Philips was only 47" and the Pioneer was 50" this was a big giveaway!! I told my other half which tv was which the minute the window sizes were shown...perhaps Jon and Jason saw this too and had their minds made up for them?

They also said tv 3 (the Pioneer) showed better images and motion handling. They did reckon that the Pioneer was not worth almost 3 times the price of the Philips though.

Images for those who may have missed this test are on the Gadget Show website.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

To be honest, I was stil recovering from seeing the fantastic Shazza running down a chilly road

but I really can';t believe that you could question the objectivity and integrity of the Gadget crews test !!!

Come on, we all watch it for a laugh and to see who wins the 'challenges', don't we ?

Whilst on this subject, does anyone here enter the competitions ?

My better'alf does ....just to win the robot vac and mop.

Yeah, I too watch it mainly as light entertainment, rather than for any techie info. I stopped watching it for a while as I felt it was a little bit silly, but realised I was being a little snobbish and now really enjoy it for what it is.

Sometimes they'll do a test that's genuinely interesting, or informative, but most of the time it's things that aren't in any way real-world situations. Can't remember the last time I left my laptop on a pile of explosives

But I guess it's similar to the likes of Fifth Gear, in that it's an entertaining show first, with the products they test secondary to that. I guess if it was a hard-core AV show catering to 'enthusiasts' then they'd only get a tiny audience, so instead they have to appeal to all.

I mean, c'mon, it's Suzi Perry and gadgets, what's not to like?! I think Jason and Jon are really good too, and the guest testers they have on are also usually pretty interesting.

Personally I dont get the whole Suzi Perry thing as She just aint My bag. My main issue with this kind of TV is that some people will take their conclusions as gospel, a bit like believeing a certain Mr Clarkson that Alfa Romeo's are great cars!

I agree with DJK, I also used to watch it but found the tests so inconclusive and frankly some were quite stupid. I get the impression of late that it's an ego trip for the presenters and as such cannot be taken seriously.
