I have a 5.1 set up. My front speaker is pretty large and therefore has to sit just infront of the TV on top of the cabinet. It is central and below the TV but sticks out infront of the TV. It sounds ok. As I understand it is best to have the speaker directly underneath, will this affect the sound?

Please let me know if this is unclear!

I can't get a clear picture in my head from the description, but it would be easier if you could say which TV speaker and stand you have.

If it is a large speaker on a solid stand, your TV is LCD or plasma and you're asking what I think you're asking speaker cabinet's are exceptionally strong so you can place you're TV on top of it if you want.ÿ

The tv is on the top of a stand, the speaker also sits on top of the stand because it cant go underneath. Because they both sit on top of the stand the tv sits behind the front speaker. what I mean is that it is not flush with the TV. Does this matter?

What flush on the horizontal plane? I've gotta say you don't make things simple! If you're asking what I think you're asking this time, it's actually better to have the sound source closer to you than the TV.

I understand what he means; both the centre and the TV are sat on the same shelf of his unit, centre at the front of the unit (looking directly at it) with the TV sat behind the centre

My centre speaker is below the TV, on the same line as the front speakers. The speaker's front face is at a slight angle so it seems to fire straight at me when i'm seated. Speaker is a Paradigm CC370. I've been told that the centre speaker should be at same level as the fronts but that would place it in the middle of the screen.

Not if the other fronts are the same distance (and height) from your sitting position. Even then there will be little difference. If you're asking if the closeness of the tv will affect the back of the speaker its unlikely and negligible at most. Depends on the set up though

Thats exactly what I mean. So the TV is behind the front stage instead of in line with it. The front stage is set up correct its just the TV is set back from it!

I have a panasonic 37 inch plasma, onkyo 875, kef Q5's - Q6and Q1's

No I don't see why that would be an issue. People with a projector set-up and a screen mounted against the wall have to have their centre infront of it.

thats quitea big speaker but if it doesn't block the view there'll be no probs and the centre tends to carry mostly dialogue so again should be fine.

In fact it is the perfect set up for front speaker placement. It just looks a bit odd.
