I was just wondering if I could pick up Italian channels if I were to connect a satellite dish to the Sony KDL 40Z5800 which has an inbuilt Freesat Tuner. Or is the tuner calibrated just for the Astra satellite 28.2°E.

In order for me to get Italian tv i would need to point my dish to Hot Bird 6/7A/8 at 13.0°E

Had a peruse of the online manual(which is rubbish, frankly) and couldn't see any mention of a non-Freesat/other channels mode.

However in the tech specs it states it supports DiSEqC 1.0, which is a control/switching protocol for switching between upto four satellites/LNB's-It would be odd to include it if the TV doesnt have a non-Freesat/Other channel mode!!

Rocky just FYI,

I've done a little digging, and it seems Sony Freesat TV's dont have switchable Freesat and non-Freesat modes (like Freesat STB's).

You have to select whether you want to use it in Freesat mode or as an FTA tuner as part of the installation process, so it would mean going through the set-up again evey time you wanted to switch between the modes.

Unless you can do without the Freesat features, such as full 8 day EPG and red button services or intend using for just viewing the Italian channels on Hotbird, in which case you could just use it as a FTA tuner.
