If I get Freesat what happens when I want to watch our local news / regional programs, do I have to switch back to normal tv?

No, all regional channels are available on Freesat, when you set the box up it'll ask you for your postcode (I think) and set the region based on that. You can still watch all the other regions if you'd like to, they're all on the EPG in the high 900's if memory serves.

You cannot get your local BBC progs on the HD channel though , you will have to go to channel 101 for that.
