JohnDuncan:the_lhc:There's a link to the House Rules at the bottom of every page. Personally I think it should be at the top of every page, but there you go...Everyone's an Information Architect...

Well there do seem to be a lot of people who aren't aware of them, so maybe making them a little more prominent would be a good idea. Or making you read through them when you sign up perhaps?

Andrew Everard:IIRC you have to tick a box saying that you have read, understood and agree to abide by the rules when you sign up.

Between the box that gives permission for Haymarket to send news and information to your email address, and the box that requires you to give your soul to Beelzebub.

Yes but you know full well that most people will just tick the box and not bother. At least if they were on the same page with the tick box at the bottom they'd be forced to scroll down through them. It won't make them actually read them, sure, but they can't then say they've never seen the rules.

Sort of agree with this. Maybe they should be like software licences, where it displays a scroll box containing the licence, which you cant agree to until you've scrolled to the bottom of the box. Can't proceed until you've agreed. OK, doesn't make you read it, but difficult to argue later that you didn't know there were rules.

To paraphrase the law: "Ignorance of the rules is no defence"

OK, here you go then

entertainment.

We aim to offer friendly, lively Forums where members can share
opinions as well as knowledge and experiences. To keep things fun and
fair for everyone, we ask you all to read - and expect you to abide by -
the following rules.

Any additions to the site - including comments on news stories and

editing and/or deletion by the site's administrators. Members who break
the rules will also receive a warning and/or be banned from the site.

includes the picture chosen as your Avatar.

4) Posts and user profiles must not include links to inappropriate

the forum failing to meet these conditions will be removed, as will
those the moderators suspect to be trade members posting under an alias.

10) The site must not be used to solicit business of any kind - this
includes any information in signatures and biographies, and specifically
prohibits trade users from linking within forum posts to their

registrations, threads or posts will be deleted. Members are also
encouraged to search for the topic they intend to post before starting a
new thread, as existing discussions may already exist for them to join.

12) Whilst we do not pre-screen submissions, members must not
question the decision of the site's moderators to edit or remove posts
or profiles, or begin a discussion in any forum about such actions. If
you feel a post or profile has been unfairly altered or removed, please
use the Contact Us page to register your views.

These rules are regularly reviewed, and may be updated at any time -
please use the Contact Us page to notify us of any perceived breach of
any of the above, or to suggest any additions or amendments.

Well, yes but given the number of people that appear on here with no apparent knowledge of the rules, I'd suggest that it's very much necessary.

Maybe a polite reminder, along with a link to the rules, on the login screen might help?

If links to ebay were banned then Dim Span would have been kicked off a long time ago!
