I'm looking for recommendations for floorstanding speakers, which would be a significant upgrade from my current Dali Oberon 5s. Budget is up to about £2k. Some of the newer models from Fyne Audio and Acoustic Energy look interesting, but I have no experience of any of them.

The rest of my system is: Musical Fidelity M5si amp, M3scd CD player and Project Debut Evo 2 turntable.
Room size is approx. 6.5 x 4.2m.

Get yourself to a decent dealership that will allow home auditioning.
Absolutely nobody here can tell you what's going to sound better to your ears in your listening room.
It amazes me why people keep asking....
What exactly do you find wrong with those Dalis?

I think people including myself do to get an idea as they try to put together a short list, there are so many to choose from otherwise you're just going blind and could spend a load of time looking at systems that may not be what you're looking for.

The kind of point I'm trying to make is if you have a dull setup / high end and are changing the speaker and want to "liven it up", people may suggest B&W or MA's which are generally known as livelier, Wharfedales are generally regarded as fairly laid back, which would probably only exaggerate what you're trying to improve.

Amplifiers, .... going back to the Arcam SA30, there were widely know software issues for quite a while and the Topping PA 5 had a lot of reliability issues, finding all of these things out sooner rather than later, can be awfully useful.

I think it's well worthwhile asking in forums and drawing on a wealth of knowledge to at least start being able to narrow it to some degree although I'd never actually make a purchase that couldn't easily be returned without at least having a home trial first.

Just my 2p's worth.

Hi, first of all, you have very good budget floorstanders Oberon 5. Rest of system, mainly the Amp is for sure more capable. Same for room, 6,5 x 4,2 is very nice big room. Oberon 5 are just a bit small in such a big space. Acustic Energy from my experience are speakers which sound better with amps with fuller sound like Exposure, Naim, Rega. Musical Fidelity is different. Not bad, just different. I have heard new Dali Sonic 5 and 9 floorstanders at the show and I was really amazed how good they are sounding. It is for sure a big step ahead for Dali in this class of speakers. They have a lot of energy, full sound, very good nearly holographic sound staging. They have power also in bass, no need for subwoofer. For a size of your room Sonic 9 are fitting the best. They cost here 2400 Eur, which is very good price. Very good alternative here will be Dynaudio Emit 50. Your MF amp has enough current and juice to drive those speakers. Dynaudios are some 400Eurs here cheaper. Fyne Audio F502S is fine alternative as well with robust very dynamic sound, not so neutral like Dynaudio. Fyne Audio will not be so sensitive on "nearer to wall" placement thanks to their Trax bass reflex system directed into the floor. Dynaudio and Dali should stand some 50-60 cm from the wall behind to prevent some bass booming in the room. And as many say try to hear combination of your amp, speaker cable and speaker personaly. This will say the most to you. And your final choice can surprise you...😊
