Hello

I have just bought my first Hifi, since I gave my dad back his Cyrus II mission amp, with Kef IQ30's and marantz cd player, after much deliberating i have settlled on:

Yamaha AS500

Marantz CD6003 - Cambridge audio connectors something 300's

Kef IQ5's, with fairly std cables with gold connecting banana plugs

I have two questions: The sound seems a little quiet compared to my dads, not enough detail, bass seems a little sluggish, is there anything i can do to improve this?

2nd question; I would like it to connect to my TV, but the only output i can use is the Optical Digital output thing, which obviously does not connect to my analogue amp, will i need a DAC if so, what do you recomend?

Many thanks

Dave

I can't really comment on your sound issues, other than to suggest that your equipment, if brand new, may need some time to 'run-in'.

As for your TV output, if all you have is optical out then yes, you will need a DAC, but it needn't be expensive at all - search for CYP products on the web for a simple optical digital in to analogue stereo out DAC for around £40 or so.

Edit: Welcome to the forum!
