Recieved Blondie Parallel lines today Virgin vinyl (180gm) pressing, what to say......................

one word "Phenominal"

I know what grade vinyl I am buying from now on, cost less than a CD as well 🙂

From e-bay just type on 180g / 200g and take your pick. I got an EX+ / NM graded (sleeve / LP) copy. £8.99

Cannot argue with that 🙂

The dynamic range, the emotion the precision, separation everything is sooooooo much better than standard pressings

£8.99? That's good, most of the ones I get are double the price of a CD!

I think the first one I got was the re-issue of Queen's A Night at the Opera, I got that at a record fair but I can't remember what I paid now, I think it might have been £15, it wouldn't have been much more than that, I wasn't earning much then and I'm not that much of a Queen fan (although I did buy the three disc best of reissue which was 50 quid...)!

The last one I got was at the Show, Johnny Cash at San Quentin, that was over 20 quid.

Odd. The last Johnny Cash LP I bought on 180gm vinyl was £8.98 from Amazon UK. (American Recordings)

I have just checked it now on Amazon and it is only available used at £29.99.

I must get into my collection and start selling!

OMG I am sitting on a goldmine!

In August 2008 I bought 'At Folsome Prison live' LP brand new from amazon for £7.47 and the only ones on offer now are between £54 and £69 used

Thanks for the heads up.

I am going to go through every LP I bought new in the last two years and check them out. (I was going to dump them all at a charity shop.)

I've wondered about buying vinyl online. What is the packaging like? Should be any worries regarding the handling whilst in transit.

I never had a problem. Good ebay sellers (and Amazon) pack this stuff really well.

No problem.

My fee is 10%...

The one I received today was very well packaged and wrapped in bubble wrap, reinforced with cardboard and then place in what looked like a bespoke LP box. 🙂

Little bit of advice mr blue. When you are next up for a 180gm job, do a little delving insomuch as to if any one has got it, and their thoughts. They are not immune to being rubbish

Yes I realise that (and the ones I quoted are 3rd party sellers) but at least it shows that I should rethink the charity shop/local dump options.

I never bought any of those LPs based on 'grammage' or their audiophiliac pretensions. Just got them from amazon for (often) under a tenner because they seemed a better option than buying used ones.

I picked up a copy of that back then too. It was about the same price from juno.co.uk.

However, I think those 2nd hand prices are optimistic on behalf of the sellers (to say the least.)

A lot of the 2nd hand vinyl prices on Amazon and places like Gemm and Discogs are a joke. Sellers seem happy to just sit on them in the hope that someone eventually (perhaps misguidedly) coughs up. I'd be interested if anything sells at those prices.

I was looking at the Plone LP "For Beginner Piano" on Amazon yesterday. 2nd hand vinyl prices are £35.99 - £65.60. The same LP, brand new, is still available from the Warp shop (bleep.com) for £8.99.

JohnDuncan:I'm just going to drive down to chebby's house and take them off his hands...

Beat you 🙂

Ooooh, that Plone album is one of my favourites. What ever happened to them?

I only recently heard of them via Seeland which is a group that features ex-Plone and Broadcast members.

Interesting thread this... as it happens I've bought some 180g vinyl recently that's not come up to scratch - no pun intended. The worst one's got to be my copy of Scott Walker's 'Scott 1' which has got some really nasty moments in it - vinyl unmarked, but terrible crackling in the middle and some very odd noises.

Equally I've had badly (and I mean badly) warped LPs and some factory shrink wrapped ones that have been equally horrible - again loud crackles, sibilance and general unpleasantness. Now if you're paying £10-£15 a pop for these I'm guessing that something's gone seriously wrong.

It's not my deck either - the same thing happens on the WHF reference kit... one bad pressing is co-incidence, two - happenstance and the third time, it's most definitely enemy action!! (as a certain Bond villain once said...).

On the plus side, the Bristol show did supply a rather nice pressing of Captain Beefheart's 'Safe As Milk'...

Yet another fantastic 180g recieved today "Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon" with stickers and posters, mint, never been played (blasphemy) till today, third time already. Who buys records to look at??

I receive the Medeski, Martin and Wood Radiolarians Evolutionary box set through the post yesterday, 5 CDs, 1 DVD, all slotted into a double gatefold LP pack containing 2 180g LPs with a selection from the CDs, each side containing no more than about 15 minutes of music. I haven't listened to them yet, but I have high hopes!
