I have now been awaiting a month for my Panasonic 37" Plasma from Empire Direct. Is anyone else in a similar position? Any suggestions where I can get one from? I am looking for it with the Cabinet. Many thanks.

I believe there have been past postings on here regarding a shortage of the cabinet stand for this TV - maybe this is the hold-up?

I just cancelled my order with Empire Direct for the 37" Panny because I was fed up with getting lied to by them. When I placed it they said it would definitely take 4-7 days for delivery and then 2 weeks later admitted that they'd made that up and didn't know when, but they'd call at some point to let me know.

They then said it would possibly be delivered in January or February but that wasn't guaranteed - great price but rubbish service

I ordered the samsung le46f86 off there last week. It said 5-7 days, then after the checkout said it wasn't in stock. I phoned on Monday and was told they were expected between 10th and 22nd and so I'd definately have it by christmas eve. They then rang me Tuesday and I was told the bloke I spoke to was chatting rubbish and to have it by Christmas they need it at their warehouse by about the 18th or something like that. Just went on their site and its not even for sale anymore, slightly worried now

That's disgusting behaviour - you should report them to trading standards.

On one hand it can be very difficult to secure stock at this time of year, particularly if you've had a big run on a particular item. No retailer can magic product out of nowhere when the manufacturer can't supply it. However, customers do deserve to be told the truth at the time of ordering and to be kept informed of progress or updated if any hold-ups are expected on a no stock order. If you don't get this communication its up to you to vote with your feet.

I told the sales member what price i could get it for online or if i travelled to a dedicated av shop. He went to talk to his manager and the manager came over and knocked down the price to £899 from £1199.

Its worth having ago at haggling. This was on a sunday and we recieved the tv on the following thurs. This did cost us £18 but that was ok.

If you have an Empire direct store near you then go into Currys or comet and they'll usually match the price, that is if they have the product in stock.

thinking of ordering from Empire direct?? Stay away!!!! I have just cancelled a Panasonic 42" Tv and a dryer. SAme as everyone else - they say it is in stock - it is not. They do not contact you to let you know. You wait 30 minutes on the phone to speak to someone, who then says it is on order. I waited weeks and weeks before cancelling my order. Phew! Ordered the Panasonic from AMAZON for £20 more and had it in two days!! NEVER AGAIN will I use Empire Direct. Best to stick to reliable companies like Amazon or Ebuyer, both whom I rate 10 for delivery, reliability and integrity. if they have the item, you get it. If they don't, you don't!

Don't be tempted by the price, which is clearly lower then most electrical companies. Stick to the big boys.

By the way, the Panasonic 42" Plasma is AWESOME! And a steal at only £650. I have hooked it up to my sky digital and the results are superb.

UPDATE: Empire Direct has today called in the administrators and closed all its stores. If you've paid for goods and are still waiting for delivery, read our News story to find out more.

I did not expect that.

I kind of did to be honest.

In the US, today the #2 electronics retailer (something "Circuitry") filed for bankruptcy.

The carnage is not over I fear.

Does this mean extended warranties are down the pan or could there be any chance of a refund?

I'm waiting for a replacement DVD player which was collected before Christmas. I was due the new player in Jan. I spoke to Empire Direct yesterday and this is what happened.

Me: Can you tell me when/if I will get the replacement?
ED: No. Can't tell you.
Me: If you can't send a replacement will I get some kind of refund?
ED: Sorry, can't tell.
Me: Can you tell me when I'll find out?
ED: No. Can't tell you that. Someone will call you and let you know.
Me: OK. When will they call?
ED: Sorry I don't know who or when they'll call.
Me: OK thanks.
ED: Can I help you with anything else today......
ME: ??????

Glad that's all clear now!

So who knows what will happen.

If anyone has ordered goods and not received them and paid by credit card you should be able to claim the money back from the credit card company (provided the amount is over £100)

Extended warranties are usually an insurance policy underwritten by a 3rd party, with the shop acting as an agent. If this is the case, you should be ok.

The problem with my situation is the original player was bought back in April last year and I've had on-going problems with it. It's been back to them 5 times. They finally accepted the unit was rubbish and agreed to replace it, in December.

No wonder they were keen!

I`m afraid it`s likely that will be the last you see of it
