in an ideal world i would just buy the b&w 685 package but theres just no room for the 686s behind the sofa so i was was curious as to whether i could build a seperate system with the front 685s and centre from the 685 package and use something smaller for the rears thats wall mountable or am i being to demanding. i dont want the 685s to be overpowering. advice please

You could buy the B&W DS3 dipole rears, although they cost £550 per pair.

sort of beats the point to spend so much when the 685s are only £320

Looks like you're just going to have to buy a pair of M-1's then.

Yes, although you need to invest in a wall bracket to mount them.

I use M1s as rears with my 685 fronts and HTM62 centre - works a treat. And you don't have to wall mount them, you can buy special stands for them (though admittedly these are quite pricey).

When you say 'rears', do you mean 'surrounds' in a 5.1 set-up? ÿIf so, the normal position would be to the side of the listening position, or perhaps a little behind - not directly behind. ÿThere are plenty of websites with advice on positioning. ÿBTW, I don't really go for 'large rears'ÿ

If you want mini versions of traditional speakers for your rears - although it's mixing manufacturers, the Monitor Audio Radius 90s are great. Because MA have brought out new versions, you can pick up a pair from Sevenoaks for under £200. They are fantastic.
