Dolby PLIIz Height Channels?

I have a new Denon AVR1910, which has the new PIIz, which allows the addition of front height channels.

As my setup is 7 ceiling mounted CI speakers, it would be easy for me to add 2 more speakers at ear height either side of the Plasma (something like some B&W M1s), and use these as the main F/R with my current in ceilings becoming the height element.

As the receiver does not allow the rear back and the front Height to run at the same time the SB channels would not be used.

Has anybody heared the difference these 2 front channels make, as I have recently read a review on the AVR4310(a more capable receiver I know) that stated they would go for the 2 additional height speakers any day over the 2 back ones.

Once a reciever that allows for all 9 to run at once, (and with funds allowing) I could then upgrade to something that allows PLIIz / Audessy DSX to run with the rears.

Thoughts please?

I would imagine picking between the extra rear or 'height' speakers may depend on the size of the room involved......

Thanks for your reply, the room is 3.6m wide x 6.8 m Long, but due to the layout of the room (stairs at the rear) the seating position is 4m from the TV and only 1m from the rear channels, a little close really.

I have 2 Bose cubes sat in a cupboard, so I am going to hook them up and see what it sounds like.

I will let you know what I think.

I used 2 extra front speakers with my previous Yamaha amp (no PLIIz, just one of Yamaha's soundfield modes), mounted just above head height on the wall behind my main L/R speakers - and they did make some difference with 'big' soundtracks (sci-fi, for example) - or it may just have been my imagination!

As very few films currently use 7.1 channels, I would suggest the extra front speakers would probably make more sense - at least they'd be used occasionally!!!!

I hooked it up with 2 Bose Cubes (not the best for front speakers) this afternoon, re-calibrated and watched scenes from Casino Royal, Bolt, Prince Caspian & Watchmen.(pure direct mode + PLIIzH)

Wow what a difference, awsome, I will be setting this up constantly, if it's that good with these Bose, can't wait to hear it with some better speakers.

Didn't even notice the 2 rear surrounds not running by the way.

All I have to do know is to get permission for some decent wall or front mounted speakers from my wife.

B&W M1's or Monitor Audio R90HD's, still need something that's a bit off a looker, any sugestions?
