At the peak of the DVD era, many people had the 5.1 home theatre sound systems, and in those days I watched many movies with both DTS and Dolby. The DTS always sounded way better than Dolby to my ears, and it wasn’t even close.
After Blu Ray came out I never got another more modern surround system because they seem to be too much of a headache to set up and I generally prefer stereo sound anyway, but DTS always had the edge as far as I am concerned.

Did you watch the same movie in the same location with Dolby audio and then again with DTS audio?

DTS a bit louder and honest. Dolby a bit more mainstream.

Yes, I did, I didn’t use to know how to decode DTS on my DVD home cinema system and I kept reading how good the soundtrack was in DVD review magazines. So I was listening in DD all the time to start with then I went into the menu one day and saw DTS option and it was like wow the difference in sound between the two! That good me hooked on home cinema systems and what a difference they can bring.
