do we over analize stuff?

my brother recently challenged me to build a system for under £1000 for his flat so heres what i came up with;

lg37lc5 (£399.99)

sony strdg 820 (£249.99)

sony bdp s350 (169.99)

jamo a102 (189.99)

the screen,amp and bd player all came from richer sounds so was able to knock them down £60 and get hdmi leads thrown in.now my point being i set this system up purely on budget and i'll tell you it looks and sounds fantastic and considering what i and many others have spent on av kit are we all guilty of over compairing and being blinded by specs

To a point yes. But There's no getting away from the fact if his budget was higher, he'd get better performance.

Glad he's happy with his stuff though. It proves you don't have to spend a fortune to get a system you're happy with.

Analysis is exponentially proportional to expense, I think. When I wanted a 200 quid telly for the kitchen, I bought the pretty one that seemed to have a good review and didn't sound like a wasp in a jam jar. If I was spending a grand, I'd be more discerning, i think.

Well i never go by specs avnut, i read about a product coming out & if it sounds good to me i always borrow 1st to demo & i always use my own specs to judge i.e my own eyes & ears ! i mean if i wanted to buy a system like you have there for under a grand then ye its a great buy, but ive spent just that on my pioneer amp, its all about setting out a budget of how much you wanna spend ! but for the money, its a nice little set up there.
