I have a Cambridge Audio A1 amp and have just bought a Pioneer PL-X430 turntable.

I plugged the turntable into the phono connections on the amp and attached the earth to the earth post. I put on a record and the sound is very quiet, almost impossible to hear.

Does this mean I need a preamp?

If so, any suggestions?

Or, should I change the turntable for a different one?

As you can tell, I'm very new to this :)

Any advice would be very much appreciated!!!

According to the manual you need to instaall a phono stage in tot he amp.

Or just buy a 3rd party unit add on like the project, rega or Cambridge Audio Azure units from Richer Sounds.

Hi,

Cambridge Audio manual states a phono stage can be fitted internally to this amp connecting to the aux/phono input - maybe worth contacting them to see if that option is available and at what cost?

EDIT: Mmmm AmigaNuts post didn't appear in my feed until this morning - at least we both say the same thing lol.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.
