What's the best connection between a PC and a DACMagic? I don't have wireless, and unfortunately I'd need a 5m cable to connect the 2 together, so what are your thoughts? USB or optical? Any specific cable, or just keep it cheap? Is USB 2.0 critcal or not?

Eddie, I agree with you that optical is better, but why the problem with 16 bit? I thought all cds were 16bit/44.1 mhz.

But all your CDs are 16 bit, so this is not a limitation unless you want to download higher res material.

As for the question, I think that USB over a five meter length would probably be more reliable. An airport express would give you wireless though (without the need for wireless router/internet) , provided your PC has wireless built in (which if it's at all recent, it probably does)? That's 16-bit an' all though!

no, not a recent PC, self-built 4 years ago. iTunes chugs along OK, so it's fine for what I want atm, but without a wireless connection I'm kinda forced down the cable route. Any cable recomendations, or am I off to PC World?
