Hi,

Wondering which is the better blu-ray movie player in terms of picture quality? There's only £100 difference between them respectively.

Thanks
Haider

Definately the Denon, If you want a blu ray player for pure picture & audio (ignoring the WLAN features/profile 2.0) the denon is built for pure AV performance.

On another thread I have read that Claire from WHF has stated the Denon is the better of the two.

The Denon pips the Sony for pure picture/sound performance, but the Sony is the better all-round price/performance/features winner; hence its Award!

Remember, the Denon is only a transport, and Profile 1.1 - if these things do not bother you, go for it.

Are you Gel in disguise?

Pioneer '71 a great player, but long in tooth now - Pioneer's current 'LX52 a better all-round option for the money, in our opinion., if you want to go the Pioneer route.

[Waits for Gel to arrive and kick off]

gel:The Sony BDP-S760.

gel is a transformed man.........he's 'turned to the dark side' now.........and promotes Sony!!!!!

Pistol Pete1:
gel:The Sony BDP-S760.

Every time I've seen Denon in action as part of various A/V Demos, there has been an embarrasingly long pause and glitches with loading up the discs ( maybe because the top discs for PQ used in demos are often -Java heavy as well) This I'm sure would be come a real irritation if you like to 'plug and play' your discs. Also the size of the thing is quite striking, you would need to make sure there was space in both height and depth on your rack. The Sony is by comparison very slight, but in terms of A/V performance I would say the difference is very marginal and probabaly not discernable to alot of punters.

sevenoaks were doing a 7 day promo for the Denon for £460 - a lot of online retailers now doing less than this. I have one and find the long loading not really a problem - you are watching a 2 hour film - not changing cds every 15 minutes.

Thanks Clare. I already have an avr-2808. Just looking for a good BD disc spinner, tbh I'm happy with profile 1. I much preferred the Sony superbit DVDs with better bitrate/IQ and DTS tracks rather than all the other hogwash used to pad out other DVD releases. I am intrigued by the new plasmas with wireless 1080P.

hi here is my humble opinion. I own a denon 2500bt and I have to say the picture quality is excellent but and this is a big BUT the load times make me lose the will to live. I have actually returned to using my PS3. I know the picture quality is not as good but it is still pretty good. I am actually selling the Denon because I simply dont think I need it. My suggestion to you is to try and demo both.If the load times are quicker on the sony and the picture quality is nearly as good buy the sony. If you are soley concerned with Picture and sound quality i dont see how you could go wrong with the Denon.

sorry gel keyboard slip it's a pioneer pdp lx508d 50"

any ideas about the res problem

You could ask Bigboss for advice he has the same tv as you.

Thanks Gel I will have another look, but I thought I had it set up correctly as star trek is the only disc that I have the problem with.I even took it back to the store and fot it swaped for another copy but no luck. It is driving me nuts as I was really looking foward to this one.

sorry bigboss I should have made myself a bit clearer it's the new star trek movie.

That's strange! Have you made sure your TV output is set to 1080p? This obviously is an issue with your Denon if your TV is set to 1080p. Make sure it has the latest firmware update installed. I haven't heard of this problem before, though. Maybe others more enlightened can help.

I've just sold my Denon 2500, it does produce better quality pictures than the Sony 760 but not by much. The Denon is just ridiculously slow and is only 1.1 profile. The Denon also has problems handling some Universal titles.
