I recently bought the DM37DAB package from superfi.co.uk with Wharfedale 9.1s. I've been pretty busy with uni work so only managed to install it last weekend, however I've noticed that there is an imbalance in the speaker output. The output from the speaker positioned to my right is noticeably louder than the left.

For example, if I play a CD with the volume set to 1, and the sound set to S.Direct then the sound mainly comes from the right speaker, and I can only hear sound from the left when I place my ear next to it. This is really obvious on tracks where the music pans from left to right.

I've tried switching the speakers so that the speaker positioned on the right goes to the left output and vice versa, but the speaker on the right (now plugged in left output) is still louder. This seems to me like there may be a fault with one of the 9.1s.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what else may cause this imbalance?

If it helps at all, I'm using Chord Leyline speaker cable that I purchased along with the package. Also due to the awkward nature of my room, the speaker positioned to the left (the quieter speaker) is less than a metres worth of cable away from the Denon, whereas the speaker positioned on the right (the louder one) is over 5 metres of cable away.

Apologies for my lack of knowledge, I'm new to hi-fi and bought the DM37DAB based upon the recommendations of What HiFi and I'm just after any help before I contact Superfi.

P.S. The DM37 sounds incredible, it's just a shame this output problem has put a downer on the situation.

Volume setting 1 is pretty low. Whats it like when its turned up to 10 or above?

You have already proved that the L and R outputs of the dm37 are ok by swapping the speakers over which can only leave the Left speaker or left speaker cable. Have u tried swapping the cables over?

Volume level 1 though, I think I would have difficulty hearing anything at that low a level.

I've never listened to mine at level "1" until I read this post so thought I'd give it a try. Never again.

As asked, add a "zero" to the volume and let us
know the result.

Yes I've tried it at a range of volumes, it's harder to notice if the volume is louder but it is obvious when the volume is at 1 or 2 so I just chose those numbers randomly.

If the volume is higher then you definitely notice it when music pans from left to right.

If I had to describe the sound it would be like the left speaker was muffled, like if it was being blocked by a pillow. Strange analogy I know.

Let superfi know and have them replace/repair the speaker. Wharfedale Diamond quality is sometimes spotty it seems. I've had a leaky 9.6 enclosure in the past, and almost got a 10.1 with a misaligned face.
