Hi

I'm a student at Bradford Uni, I have little money to spare, knowing little about Hifi I decided to go with What HI-Fi's 5 star choice and went for the Denon D-M37DAB . Also the recomended Now Add These sound style Z2s peakers stands, which I bought a little while before the system. I set them up spikes and all and placed them in the front room waiting for the arrival of my Denon. now this is purely an aesthetic moan , well apart from the fact that my speakers don't fit on the spikes! but they do look a little like a pea on a drum. there is at least half inch of top plate showing at either side of my speakers and to be honest they, well look a bit messy. anyone know if I can get a smaller top plate...🙂

I've got a similar set up to you - the older D-M30 system set up on the Z2s. For one thing I did away with the spikes and just used the adhesive silicon pads - same problem as you've described and anyway I didn't fancy them digging into the bottom of my speakers. I've also pulled my speakers right to the front of the stands so you don't notice the bigger top plate so much - doesn't help with the sides but improves the overall look. Might be worth contacting Soundstyle to see if they do a smaller top plate though I doubt it.

More extreme options are 1.) Look for a different set of stands if you can which fit better - even if they're not as well endorsed 2.) Get someone who knows what they're doing to cut them to size - ouch! 3.) Get two identical slabs of something solid to sit on top of the stands to make a bit more of a feature and less of an eyesore. 4.) Upgrade you speakers to something a little larger - you could get something decent for about £100ish - though those that come with the Denon are in themselves pretty good.

Personally I'd live with it if you can as you've got a good set up there for your needs and budget. I wouldn't do away with the stands as they made a big difference to the sound of my system and made for a more stylish looking set up (though point noted). Give it a month and see if you still notice it.

Thanks. Yes apart from rather drastic measures with the stands, which I did consider! the. the only option I seem to have is live with it. though I will say as soon as I can afford new speakers, that will be my second option...

I do however feel a little let down by the advice from What HI-FI, it makes me wonder if they ever placed a pair of these speakers on the Z2's?... I'm sure there are far better suited stands/speaker combos for this system...

We most certainly did - and indeed do, when we're testing budget hi-fi/speakers on a regular basis. They simply sound superb with the set-up, and we didn't feel the top-plate size an issue..... Shows again, however, our insistence that you should try before you buy - what we consider aesthetically (or indeed sonically) acceptable, you may hate!

Try before you buy in the present climate is not always an option. Indeed there are only two types of retailers in my area that carry Hi fi. 1.The big stores where I can honestly say I never have seen a pair of Z2'S. 2. my friendly neighbourhood hi fi shop, who from past experience would sneer at any low life who dare enter his shop with less than a thousand pounds to spare " in fact they don't even stock the Denon". No my option was to rely on what I thought was a trusted source. Far be it from me to even suggest that anyone spending less money would even be the slightest bit interested in the aesthetics that high end audiophiles are so obviously oblivious. Oh and the speakers don't fit on the spikes!!!

But as Jarnesque says above, you don't have to use the spikes. Sorry you're not happy with what we think is a cracking set-up
