Hi all!

This is a query regarding the capabilities of Denon AVR1910.

Can I get the receiver to output video (to the TV) from my sky box, while it outputs audio (to the speakers) from my iPod? Cables from my sky box go into SAT/CBL inputs of the Denon. The audio cable from my ipod goes into the IPOD inputs on the Denon. So essentially the question is - can the Denon output video from SAT/CBL, while outputting audio from some other source?

I believe this is possible - read about it on some other website, before I had bought the 1910 (but am unable to locate it now). Can anyone help please?

Many thanks,

Abhi.

Hey Abhi,

I reckon you should be able to do this no probs using the input selection menu - i have sky hd and in order to get dolby digital you have to run an optical cable and an hdmi. Then select video from the hdmi but audio from the optical.

I'd imagine you could do something similar for your requirements...

You should check out Batpig's Denon to English review - he has the answer to almost any question you could have:

http://www.batpigworld.com/fadq.html#general

Quote taken straight from batpig:

Q: Can I mix the audio and video from two different sources? For
example, can I watch the game on TV while listening to music on my CD
player?

A: Denon AVR's have for years had a "Video Select" function
(sometimes labeled on the remote as "V.Select") which allows
you to mix the audio and video from different sources. The functionality
is explained well in the manual (for once).

Go to the source you want to hear audio from, and then keep hitting
"V.Select" until the display indicates that you are getting
video from the source you desire. For audio-only sources, like the
"CD" input, you can also pre-assign the Video Selection in the
INPUT SETUP menu.

Unfortunately, however, there is one major hangup with newer Denon
models - you cannot use the Video Select function with any HDMI
sources!!
This is a pretty big bummer, and is one of the (many)
reasons it is probably better to leave your cable box hooked up via
component video + digital audio as opposed to HDMI. You cannot mix the
audio and/or video from ANY HDMI source using Video Select at all.

There are workarounds -- for example, you could temporarily go into
INPUT SETUP and actually reassign the audio input you desire to match
with the video input you are watching. Or you could run a second audio
connection to the input you get the video from (for example,
"TV/CBL") and use the "input mode" buttons to switch
from HDMI audio to "digital" or "analog". But, of
course, if you forget to change it back your wife will be wondering why
she is trying to watch TV and only gets sound from the CD player!

hope this helps

Let me know how you get on - i think i'll set up an additional setting on my 1910 to do something similar....

Hey Newton,

That worked great! Thanks a ton for your help on this. The 'V.Select' button on the back of the remote indeed did the trick.

Thanks again,

Abhishek.
