HD receiver replacement for Denon AVR-3802

HI, I have the Denon 3802, Im thinking of getting either the Yamaha dsp-ax763 £400, the dsp-ax863se £600 or one of the Onkyos listed below.

Would the Onkyo TXSR606 at £350 (£400rrp) be a good substitute in sound quality to the Denon. Its been raved about in all the mags, and does everything.

Its got HDMI 1.3a* Audio and Video Processing (1080p; 4 Inputs and 1 Output) 140 W/Ch Minimum into 6 Ohms, 1 kHz, IEC (1 Channel Driven) slightly less output(90-8ohms) than the Denon 3802(105 ohms*?).

Or even the Onkyo TXSR806 (rrp£800) for £599.99 has the following,

THX Ultra2 Plus Certified with THX Loudness Plus DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus Decoding HDMI to Support Deep Color, x.v. Color, LipSync, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, DVD-Audio, Super Audio CD HDMI Audio and Video Processing (1080p; 5 Inputs and 1 Output) 180 W/Ch Minimum into 6 O, 1 kHz, IEC (1 Channel Driven).

Im after good sound for Hi fi use and for cinema use.

What would your choice be.

If anyone has these or could assist, id be grateful.

Cheers.

Richer Sounds doing the Denon 2809 for £700, scored 4 stars.
You could try a few dealers for the Denon 3808 and see if you can get a deal for around that price. I have the 3808 and its really good on both counts including stuff from my ipod.

I have a 3805 (couple of years younger than yours) and am looking at the likes of the Marantz SR6003 to replace my AVR (and hifi amp if it fits the bill with stereo). I'm also considering the latest offerings from Denon e.g. 2809 and Yamaha 1900 and will hopefully line up a demo in a few weeks. Ideally I need 2 hdmi outputs due to a pj/plasma setup but if I can get hold of a decent splitter that works, I might go with the Denon or Yamaha. The Marantz is my current favourite to replace my 3805 though.

I replaced my 3802 a few months back with an Onkyo 905 (I got it cheap from Richer Sounds) and it blew the 3802 away. I'm also using missions if that is any interest.

Are you guys kidding, John Newman is bang on, Richer Sounds are doing the Onkyo 906 (new model) for under £900. That has got to be the choice of the year.

I'd buy it and slowly re-build the speaker set up over the next few years. It is the sort of piece of kit that can form the centre of your set-up. That's what I'd do. What a bargain!

Thanks everyone.

I think im going to have to go see the above suggestions in action, and i will save the Onkyo TXNR906 for the last audition.

Although as daft as it sounds, the Onkyo does everything, the spec is mad as a hatter, and is rrp £1199.95, and up for grabs at richers for £799.95.

It would prob blow the 150w Mission 753s into oblivion, so i would no doubt have to get another speaker set up for a couple of grand (which i havent got).

Now ive just seen Focal JMLabs chorus 836v for £1500 300w per ch. They look like 753s as well funnily enough. (i could maybe stick the 753s as rears).

Thanks very much.
