Denon AVR 1912 now only £279!

I've got a question about Denon receivers,

About a year back we for the 2311 for £430. The RRP is £800 i believe.

Reductions of upto 1/2 price are seen across the range.

You don't see this other brands such as Onkyo, Yamaha...why?

Yamaha's flagship 3067 receiver is currently being sold at more than half its original RRP.

It all depends on market dynamics. If there are more receivers than the demand, & new receivers are imminent, the price will drop. Also, new models will drop the price of older ones. This has got nothing to do with quality.

Another factor could be the value of the Pound. I remember 2-3 years ago when the Pound was getting weak, Denon had increased the price of its models across the range (one of the reasons I didn't go for the Denon that time & opted for Yamaha instead).

Hmm - you wouldn't like to correct the wikipedia page on Denon, would you? I don't really know enough about it to do so myself.

Offending line, or line that seems a bit misleading, is:

"The Denon brand was first established in 1947 when “Nippon Columbia” merged with “Japan Denki Onkyo”."

Onkyo is known as Onkyō Kabushiki-gaisha not Japan Denki Onkyo.

(Denki = Electrical goods)

According to the same source 'Onkyo' means 'sound harmony' so I imagine it crops up quite a bit.

Just to confirm, Denon and Marantz are entirely separate from Onkyo.

Oh, and a Denon AVR-1912 at £279 is utterly, ridiculously good value!

Murdo,

Why are the Denon prices falling at the moment, not just the amps but blu ray as well.

Marantz and Denon are sister companies, Onkyo aren't connected to them. Although they may share service departments etc, they are still run as individual companies.

Hi Michael,

Sorry for the late reply. Re prices; retailers are free to set their own prices, and current market conditions are of course also very competitive.

Murdo
