I wonder if anyone has auditioned the Dennon 1908. I am looking at either the Dennon 1908 or the Onkyo TX-SR605. They are both roughly the same price at the moment around £350 on the net.

The 605 has great reviews but I have not seen any on the 1908, so I am not sure if this model is up to scratch.

Any advice please

Peter

I replaced my Pioneer 859 with the Onkyo 605 and although I have yet to have the equipment to get true hd audio from it, I would recommend it without hesitation. I thought the Pioneer was good but the Onkyo is Great!

Thanks for the reply

I have not got the true DD kit either. But both these receivers look as future proof as you can get for the money. I just want to hear the Denon before I make up my mind. I heard the Onkyo TX-SR605 the other day and it sounded good. I like the look of the Denon though, but at the end of the day I suppose it is the sound that matters.

Has anyone had a listen to the Denon 1908? Reviews seem to be thin on the ground!

I guess it depends where you are putting the Amp.

If I had an amp whose front looked like a spare panel from 1960's bat mobile (yes you, Onkyo), I would probably hide it away in a cupboard. If it was on display, I might consider the 1908, or if you are reasonably happy with your current amp, wait for the 1909 to be released, which I would guess would be somewhat closer to the Onkyo spec (and more than likely have the simple wave front).

The Denon 1908 doesnït decode Dolby True HD/DTS HD, the Onkyo 605 does.

If you are buying a new amp, go to one that support the decoding of the new sound formats, founded on BR/HDVD
