david could you give me your opinion of the benefits i would get from upgrading my br5s to rx6s ? im 95% certain of getting a pair on saturday , ex dem , i can upgrade for e400 , a few of the guys here , rs , dan , jaxwired , mathew etc reckon that my amp and cdp should be able to do a job too , no need to upgrade them , id appreciate your thoughts also ? cheers ...

Er, I'll qualify your point about "doing a job". On paper, the amp should drive the speakers thanks to their high sensitivity. I'd be inclined to bear in mind what the magazine said about the amp's limitations with speakers above a certain price. If it was my cash, I'd be looking to have a listen before parting with the money, preferably with the amp and speakers together, just to be sure.

) , i just want to try and get a handle on exactly what the rx6s bring to the party over the br5s , ive been listening to music all day on them , and they sound great , although as ive said , for e400 more i probably wont be able to resist the rx6s , and ill be putting any speaker upgraditis fully to bed

Sorry for not answering earlier - I would've replied last night but I fell asleep after watching a film last night so didn't end up logging on - it's been a busy morning here, so I've only just managed to get on these forums
The NAD will be fine with them Max
Differences? The wood veneered cabinet of the RX will be far more solid than the BR cabinet, which will add more due to being more flexible. Speakers with more solid cabinets are capable of producing a more three dimensional image as they draw less attention to themselves. Obviously there's extra weight in the RX cabinet too, which helps with overall stability too. The drive units of the RX are more refined, especially in the higher frequencies, where you'll notice less nasties, especially at higher volumes. The bass driver will be better engineered, with a greater capability when it comes to speed and uniformity when in action.

Max, my point was very much the same as RS. The Nad you have will drive them fine - my only reservation was the difference in sound quality. I'm not sure it'll be that much of an improvement on the BR5s, but as originally pointed out, whether that would be enough to justify the extra investment or not is another matter. i was talking to my dealer today dan , who i might add is not trying to sell me anything , he has been great this last few weeks , anyway , i asked him again if he thought id get a worthwhile improvement from the rx6s over the br5s , and he said theres a guy that has been a frequent customer in his store over the last ten years , he has tried many different speaker/amp/cdp combos in that time , and after recently getting a pair of rx6s , (not sure of amp and cdp) he phoned jack (munstersounds) and told him that these were the speakers he has been looking for for the last ten years

My take on this is the thing with buying a decent speaker system is that they will last you for many years.
I have the RS8's (as you can see from my info) cannot fault the build quality and finish, lovely furniture, same quality as the 6's.
Having put together various systems over 30 odd years I always started with the best speakers I could afford at the time. The signature sound of a speaker HAS to please you personally.
It is then easier to upgrade to a better amp/pre amp system etc later to get the best out of them.
I would be really surprised if you didn't love the RX6's you are getting, they are a big step up from the ones you have. A more natural, detailed performance should make your listening pleasure so so much nicer. 🙂
