what is the damping factor for plinius 9100 and especially primare i30?

i'd be also glad if i knew which good amp(s) around £2000 do have the highest damping factor

Damping factor, like any other measurement, isn't the be all and end all. Many other factors will play a part in what you're going to hear, and it's what you like the sound of that's more important, rather than searching out specific specs.

Hi indietronic

Unfortunately these figures don't seem to be available however both Plinius and Primare tend to drive many speakers well so in addition to the amplifiers having healthy current levels than i would not be surprised that (amongst other aspects of design) they also have sufficient damping factor.

Other amplifiers that you could also consider at around the £2k level that have healthy damping factor (to control the drive units movement and reduce ringing and time smearing which helps give a tight and controlled bass, etc.) are ATC's SIA2-150 MK2 or the CA2/P1 combination. The SIA2-150 MK2 and P1 are class A biased (up to 2/3 output) with very low in distortion and have other impressive figures to help aid their superb performance. Their low impedence, high current etc. helps them to keep the massive SCM150's in check therefore they can also effectively control many other passive designs (including your speakers).

Btw, the SIA2-150 MK2 and P1 having a damping factor of 400+.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Thanks

thank you! of course the damping factor is not the Alpha & the Omega of an amp ....just out of curiosity, i would like to know the factor, hi-fi companies used to publish those factors a couple or so of decades ago...

Merry Christmas fellow music lovers!

If you want really impressive damping factors, look at class D, digital amps (sometimes called switching amps). These sometimes have damping factors as high as 1000.
