I have been thinking about a small portable bluetooth speaker for travel etc. since I got a new Android phone a little while ago but hadn't done anything else about it after I went to my local Currys/PC World and asked if I could try a few with my phone and was given a firm 'no' by the salesperson who approached me. However, yesterday I saw an article in the news section of this website that Cyrus has released the Soundcan which, according to their blurb, is their 'first piece of portable hi-fi equipment' (my emphasis on the 'hi-fi') and the Cyrus name had me convinced.

Anyway, I ordered one yesterday and, despite Cyrus saying 7-10 business days, it arrived this afternoon which is fantastic service.

It seems to be very well built and certainly looks good BUT I expected more in the sound quality department. Perhaps I am asking for too much that such a small piece of kit should deliver good sound but it is disappointing considering it has got the Cyrus name attached to it. That said, I have never actually heard another small bluetooth speaker at any price to use as a reference point - the Soudcan was £80 which, I think, is at the top end for such small devices.

Has anybody else on the site got (or heard) a Cyrus Soundcan and what do they think?

Bear in mind that Bose have two portable wireless speakers - the SoundLink Mobile and the SoundLink Mini - £239 and £169 respectively. They're good performers, and are proving very popular. Yamaha have something similar to the SoundLink Mini, which is £199, and while FOXL were available in the UK, there's were £150+.

I haven't heard it myself, but for £80, I wouldn't expect it to compete with those I have listed, and I wouldn't expect it to either. Size will play a big part in how good it will sound, so if you want a smaller item for better portability, there will be compromises. It has to be better than the majority of products that are just cashing in on the current craze...

Thanks David. I appreciate what you say about size and the Soundcan might well be better than most on the market - I just don't know. All the others that you mention are way to big for me as I want something small to bury in a grip bag. I guess, in the end, basic physics dictates against a true Hi-Fi sound (whatever that is!) from something so small.

Any other views. It would be really good to hear from somebody with direct experience who can make a comparison for me.

On Cyrus website they are offering a 30 day money back and after looking at a few reviews the general feedback is good

The 30 day money back is only on unused products and buyer has to pay return postage so this won't help the OP.
