Silly question but... Can I output via digital optical an FM station or will the optical out only work for the DAB stations? Can't find anything in the manual.

Cheers, all abuse greatfully received..........

I have just had an email from Cyrus who assure me that the optical out will work for FM radio........I am sur they know what they are doing only I don't understand how it will work. Does the DAB 8.0 convert the fm signal into digital form to use the digital out?

I guess it must in order for that to work, but it seems a bit pointless to take an analogue signal, convert it to digital then back to analogue again.

I agree with you Andrew, but I have asked Cyrus what is the best way to connect the DAB 8.0 in fm mode to my amp 8XPdQX and they tell to do it optically, to take advantage of the QX DAC module. I am not convinced. I will give it a serious trial after I have had a new fm aerial installed - hopefully on Wednesday morning.

Cheers...

Make sure they are not fobbing you off with some dreadful 'omnidirectional' FM aerial. (The circular ones.)

FM half-wave dipole is much better (and OK with DAB too) in most decent reception areas.

(Although, looking at the gear in your signature, I am sure you are getting a proper specialist job done.)

Nor me - I'd go analogue, personally...

Absolutely Chebby, getting a professional in to do it. No point spoiling the ship for a ha'pence of tar. I've spent enough on cheap and make do kit to know that it is false economy.

Andrew, I will probably use analogue for connecting (unless a bit of testing proves otherwise). I have a spare cyrus interconnect. And it makes logical sense.

Cheers and thanks for the advice.
