Ok so I've had it for a few days now. Played a lot of CD's, CD-R's. No loading errors so far.. What I did have was one time he wouldn't take the disc... So i tried to switch it on/off but stil same thing. I tried to push the disc a little bit further in and I felt that it would get stuk there so I pulled it out. After that he took the disc in like he always does.. a sweating moment there... Other thing was one time I tried to eject a disc and he said that there was no disc in it... Had to press eject a couple of times.

The new models still don't eject the disc quite far enough. It's maybe 2-3mm farther than the previous model. That being said you need to keep your finger ready (on level of the display) to catch it (sounds a little more dramatic than it is though). The new bezel helps as in when you've caught the CD hole with your finger it's easier to take it out without the danger of scratching the surface.

Other than that the player has worked really fine so far. I've played about 100 CD's right now.

OK so some people were asking how it compares to the DacMagic.

I
have a DacMagic hooked up to my old Pioneer DV-525 dvd player. And the
Cyrus 8se (no PSX-R yet) with a Supra lo-Rad cable. Both analogue
hooked up to my amp.

First off the BIG differences.

-The
Cyrus has a smoother high than the DacMagic combo. I can really hear
this in voices when the singer starts to sing on a higher note or when
cymbals start crashing. It's not always nice for the ears.

-The Dac seems to be putting emphasis more on voices and bass.
That way it gives a fuller sound than the Cyrus. But the Cyrus is imo
better balanced. Everything is there but not forced upon you. Oh yeah the bass of the Cyrus is tighter.

-Details: I can hear the same amount of details on both players. But here again balance and emphasis play a big role. The Dac has all the details but it's not as naturally presented making it more of analytical listen. The Cyrus brings those details smooth and balanced. So although it's a very analytical player it doesn't sound that way. It might have to do with the SE system that it finds all those details with such ease that it can present it so smoothly and balanced. It doesn't seem to try as hard to sound impressive as the Dac does.

All in all the Dac is not bad at all, good even. It has a fuller and more catchy sound. If that's your cup of tea, then there's no need to shelve out big $$$$$ for a Cyrus player. Catchy stuff doesn't appeal in the long time (see timeless music vs. one hit wonder pop tracks with catchy melodies that make people sing it all day after one listen). The Cyrus' greatness hits you after a few tracks.

This is totally based on my opinion and how they both sound it my combination though so don't take my word for it...lol

Haha Slick, your CD 8 Se must have quite a temperament so much so that you refer to it as "he"

Anyway, enjoyed reading your review. My system is opening up nicely. Today I got myself 2 runs of Supra LoRad mains for my cdp and amp and it certainly helped in the sonic delivery.

Any review on your Spendor A5?

Good to hear you're enjoying your system man! What do you think of those Supra cables? I think they give bring in more space in between the instruments. Or some extra quietness if you will. Making the overall image clearer.

I will post my views on the A5 soon.

This sums it about up when i compared my modded DacMagic to my Xindak DAC-8 but the sound wasn't actually thinner with my Xindak.

PS: The mod on the DacMagic didn't do THAT much actually.

Upon ejection the disc emerges past the centre hole and is then taken back into the player a little. If you have your fingers ready you can grab it just before it retreats back that little amount.

Excellent. Enjoy your music.

May I ask what software level you have installed on the player please?
Press and hold the power on/off button.

Quenzer it's;

Version 4.3, Servo 1.7, installed on november 2.

Mayeb I chose the wrong words, it's not exactly thin. It's a different presentation. Like more forward.
