I prefer Sinead O`Connors version of `Nothing Compares To You` over the original by Prince.

Think it helps a little if you hear the cover version first which I did in this case.

Re: First nomination:

Kat Maslich-Bode – Let's Go Out Tonight

The Blue Nile – Let's Go Out Tonight

The Blue Nile, everytime.

Third nomination:

Andrea Corr – Tinseltown In The Rain

The Blue Nile – Tinseltown In The Rain

The Blue Nile, everytime......

...so far away from the sentiment it's laughable.

Well we'll agree to disagree on my nomination obviously...;-)

And to your example; if you want to start a thread on "horrendous covers of songs that cannot be bettered anyway", feel free...

She's not there, I prefer Santana's version to The Zombies one &

Suzi Q, Creedance Clearwater Revival is better than Dale Hawkins version.

Something a little more recent ,Only Love Can Break Your Heart, my preference is for the Saint Etienne version over Neil Young's
.

A few that spring to mind:

Johnny Cash - Hurt

The Gourds - Gin & Juice

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (I know, i'm sorry, but I think it's better)

Tim Buckley - Dolphins

Robert Wyatt - Shipbuilding

Nick Cave - Stagger Lee (not really a cover, but my favourtite verison of the many variations)

And i believe, that Because The night was a co-written song - so doens't really count, although I do agree that Smith's version IS better that the Springsteen version.

Shaun Marin

Brand Manager - Bowers & Wilkins

Im going to be controversial here...

Linkin Park > Adele - Rolling in the Deep

Although Adele has a remarkable voice, I think Linkin Parks acoustic version from the 2011 iTunes festival has so much more heart to it. Who would have thought someone so screamy and angsty to sing so pretty?
