Hi,

Following advise from this excellent site i purchased a panasonic TX-32LZD80 and a Sony DAV-IS10 home entertainment system. I already have it set up but have just noticed that i do not not have surround sound whilst watching sky. It will play through the systems speakers but does not use the rear ones.

I have a Scart from Sky to TV

HDMI from Sony system to TV

Optical cable from Sony System to Sky.

Do i need to connect the sony system to the sky box or does surround sound not work through sky anyway?

Ta

Gareth

Hi the optical cable from the skybox to the amp should do it hoverver you will need to activate the optical output on the sky box.
This is done through the services > system setup menu.
Can't remember the exact menu setting but have a look you should find it.

Not everything on Sky is in surround - most of it is in stereo. You need to have the system set to decode surround when it is there - auto detect should do that, and run in a processed surround mode when receiving stereo, if that's what you want. Using Dolby Pro-Logic II on the Sony will give a reasonable surround effect from stereo sources.

Go to the film channels, press " i " and check the abbreviations ie. DD is dolby dIgital, if you have it set up right you'll get DD sound via your amp.

Andrew re the above would you expect to get some distortion on vocals in the surround speakers as the amp attemps to force surround sound ? I sometimes get "squelchy" voices ?

thanks

I hoping that sky will enable dolby dig via hdmi sometime soon if technicaly possible! save on a lead.
