connection help needed for beginner

hi can you help please i am thinking of buying one of the new pany x80 models if i connect my sony std dvd player to a scart input will the x80 upscale the signal to 720. or will i need to buy a dvd player such as the sony rdr hxd 970 and use the hdmi input ,also would the 970 upscale the sd signal from my virgin cable box with out recording the signal to hard drive.

The Panasonic will upscale any signal it receives to suit its resolution - that'll include your DVD player and your Virgin cable box.

However, the better the signal you can feed it, the better the end result - so ideally you should move to a good DVD or HD player with an HDMI connection. The Sony DVD recorder's a good bet if you need recording, too.
