connecting up my new kit

Hi, Im new to all of this so please be gentle. I need help in connecting up my new tv and bits. I have a pana.32lxd700, sony rdrhxd870 dvd recorder, virgin cable box, yamaha ysp900 sound bar.

Can someone please show me how to cable this lot together or post a link where I can access this info.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, welcome to the forums!

From what I can see, this is how everything should be set up for the best sound:

Sony DVD recorder to the TV using HDMI and then to the Yamaha using coaxial.
Virgin cable box to the TV using HDMI and to the Yamaha using optical (assuming your V+ box has these connections).
Why not hook the other optical output from the TV to the Yamaha for Freeview (fake) surround. Couldn't hurt!

professorhat, thanks for taking the time to reply.

I found a nice connectivity tool on the sony website, and it came up with the following:

RF into set top box, RF out STB to RF in DVD rec, RF out DVD to RF in tv

Virgin STB to DVD rec via scart

DVD to tv via HDMI

DVD to yamaha via digital coax

tv to yamaha via digital coax

Standard virgin stb doesnt have output to allow connection to yamaha. Any opinions? once again thanks for your help.
