Connecting things to Onkyo TX-SR577

Slowly getting things together - I bought the Onkyo TX-SR577 over
the weekend and spent ages reading the book and plugging things in.
However, can anyone help me with connecting my Wii to the Onkyo? My Wii
has a red, white and black plug bundle coming out of it but I can't
find anywhere on the machine to put these - even though there is a
'game' setting for sound etc. Do I need to buy an adaptor or something?
Also, my crappy old VCR has a scart plug coming out of it - how do I
connect this to the Onkyo?

Any help would be massively appreciated

Hmmm, red, white and black? I'm guessing this is a S-Video connection with standard RCA phono leads. Does it look like this on the non-Wii end (without the yellow cable):

For the VCR, the Scart should go direct into the TV and, hopefully, either the VCR itself or at least the TV has RCA phono outputs which can then be plugged into the Onkyo to give sound through the system when watching videos.

Have you got an HD TV or one with Component in (Red, Green, Blue sockets)? If so, I suggest you get the Component cable for the Wii. It provides a decent bump up in video quality.

Yup - that's the one in the pic, I think. I have an HD TV and lots
of sockets on the back of the Onkyo (see this pic

need to buy a component video cable with the green, blue and red plugs
to go from the Wii to the Onkyo? Then the same to come out of the Onkyo
into the TV? Or would the hdmi out to the TV carry the Wii signal?

Ok. That

phono outputs go? Is it the orange, white and red sockets in the
middle?

Yes, the red and white connection's in the middle(the ones marked cbl/sat,vcr/dvr or dvd/bd)!

Okay, the Onkyo doesn't have any S-Video inputs, do you have the yellow cable on your lead as well. If so you can connect the yellow, red and white cables into one of the inputs in the middle (marked Cbl/Sat, VCR, DVD/BD). You would then need a single composite cable going from the Onkyo yellow Monitor Out socket into the TV.

However, as others have said, I would get the Wii component cable - most people I've heard from say it improves the picture considerably. As you say, the Wii component cable would hook into the Onkyo (red, blue and green for the video and then another red and white cable for the audio). You then need another standard component cable going from the Onkyo to the TV.

Quick update - I got the component cables to connect the Wii up and it works a right old treat. Thanks to everyone for the help. This place rocks.
