Connecting DVD to DAC (Stereo only sytem)

Hi,

Does anyone know, if it's possible to connect a DVD / Blu-ray player to my Hifi System via my Naim DAC?

I'm not into surround sound, but I wouldn’t mind watching the occasional movie through the hifi.

I have tried already, but all I got was some sort of digital processing sound. I wasn’t sure if this was because my DVD is outputting in 2.1 or if the audio is encrypted to protect copy right. I had no sound option on the disk for stereo only.

I want to connect via the dac, as I was thinking, it would be a good way to upgrade the sound quality, or am I just left with the internal analogue outputs on the DVD player?

Just change the settings on the DVD/BD player to output as stereo only. Should sort it out.

Stereo "PCM" - what you're hearing is the DAC trying to do something with a dolby digital or DTS signal. PCM is the standard format of uncompressed digital data used on CDs, DVDs etc and that's what the Naim DAC recognises.

okay, I'll check the back of some dvd's for the sound formats, and give it a go
