Connecting DVD player to TV

I have recently bought a Sony KDL40W4000. At present i run a standard definition sky box and a dvd player (cambridge audio) with the dvd player connected into sky box and then sky box into TV (both with scart leads). The picture quality from the sky box is excellent, but the dvd picture is a bit ropey (looks grainy and close ups of faces seem to shimmer).

Is there a better way to connect DVD to TV (direct, rather than through sky box). Is scart the best type of interconnect to use for DVD player or is there a better type to use?

Any help much appreciated!

Not sure what DVD player you have, but best would be to output to the TV with HDMi (if it has the output).

If that's not possible, there's no reason to pass a signal through your sky box - it doesn't upscale, so at best it does nothing to your picture and at worst the crappy connectors in the sky box could impair it.

Best running a scart direct to the TV. If you have quality scarts, all the better, but use the better one for your DVD player.

Ok, thanks!! I'll try direct into TV with quality scart lead!!

DVD player is a few years old and has scart, component, svideo and coaxial outputs (no HDMI). Is scart the best output to use or would one of the other ones be better?

But bear in mind that if you use component you'll also need an audio connection to the TV - usually a pair of analogue interconnects.
