I walked in to my local Hifi shop at the weekend asking for a price on sending my amp back to manufacturer for an upgrade and was told that it was a waste of time as he had complaints from previous customers who had had this mod carried out.

What Amp is it I hear you cry well it's a Musical Fidelity X-80 and the upgrade would be to the X-150 spec.

For me this would be a cheaper option and keep the wife happy until the bug starts again!

Anyone out there had or know of anyone who has had the mod?

This is killing me!

I can't recall being aware of this modification being available, but if it is, your best bet is to call Musical Fidelity directly on 020 8900 2866 to find out what it's likely to cost and find a retailer willing to handle the job for you.

The retailer you visited may have had some experience of this as claimed, or may just be trying to sell you a new amplifier instead - don't sweat the thing, just check with manufacturer and put your mind at rest.

Thanks for the number I will call on Monday.

As for the upgrade yes it can be done for the price difference + £50.
