I'm aware that this is not a Hi Fi thread but we all use computers to participate here, so I was wondering what free anti - virus software people use and I'm guessing that most people use a free one.

I'm reading that the newish Windows Security Essentials is supposed to be very good and was it worth a try, I'm using Avast at the moment and was it worth a change?

Yes but people talking about that do it in the "computer-based music" sub-forum.

Yes but that is a minority forum, this is the most popular and most read forum and would get the most response............

If everybody had that attitude we might as well not have sub-forums at all.

And where's your evidence that it's a minority forum? Presumably you mean you don't read it?

I don't know why everyone doesn't just use the latest posts option, it's by far the easiest way to keep up with everything that's being posted.

This is the mostly used forum, so everyone uses a computer here, so I'm after a consensus opinion.

What is your problem?

WPA2 and 13 character password on home wireless network.

Built in firewall and 'stealth mode' on iMac

Norton Internet Security 2010 on upstairs PC. (Paid for)

Free Corporate Mcafee 8.5 on my own/work from home system. (Installed and updated through my company.)

We have used NIS on our own PCs at home since about 2002 with no problems at all.

I've been using AVG Free for a number of years now - and I'm happy with it. And Zone Alarm as a Fire Wall

Yup...AVG free also, find it very good, plus a couple of others (both bought and free).

I don't think there's anyone here who doesn't use a computer...

What is your problem?

It's got nothing to do with hi-fi!

now now kids lets play nicely I use avg free as well

its good and its free

Thanks for all the sensible replies chaps, its just that I'm always being asked to set up other peoples computers mainly for elderly people who are not used to them, and I don't want to put dodgy or expensive Anti - virus software on their machines...........
