Compress iTunes files while syncing?

I have a Sony MP3 player - when I used to transfer files to the player from SonicStage you could 'compress while you synced' i.e. from WAV to 192kbps. Can you do this in iTunes as I have now converted and have both a 120GB Classic and an 8GB iPhone and all my files are Apple Lossless?

This is a feature I'd like to see.

Sadly for now you'll have to convert them yourself.

Thankfully you can right-click on a selection of tracks and choose to convert them to whichever bitrate and format is defined in the import settings.

i.e. change the rip settings to 256kbps AAC, highlight your lossless tracks, right-click, convert to AAC.

Unfortunately you'll have copies of tracks but these could be split using smart playlists by the variable of bitrate.

Cheers Ed that's the sort of thing I was looking for, I shall fill the iPhone with some lovely 320kbps AAC files

Thanks Eddie I will try this should be able to get 750 tracks @320 Kbps on there - bit more variety
