Compatible playstation 3

Someone has offered to get me a PS3 from Malaysia, however I'm unsure as to whether or not the games would work or dvd's would be compatible?

Can anyone shed any light please, bit of a newbie in this area.

Games would work, but DVDs and Blu-Rays would need to come from whichever zones Malaysia is in for these respectively
