I am one of those persons who argued that up-grading mains cables could not add gains to hi fi or home cinema equipment. After being involved with debates on the subject I went out and bought four Clear Audio Copper Line Alpha mains cables and a couple of Tacima CS929 conditioner mains blocks.

The Tacima CS929 did not add what you would call massive changes but did make a difference for me to keep it connected to my Hi Fi. I run the CD player and pre-amp from the Tacima CS929 while the power amps are run from the old mains block I used. There was a far more notable difference with the Tacima CS929 hooked up to the home cinema equipment.

Clearer Audio Copper Line Alpha. These cables really shocked me so much so I was flabbergasted at how much more open my Hi Fi sounded. When first connected up it was obvious gains were being made. How to describe these gains? Clearer, faster, puncher. The only problem at the beginning was what sounded to me like a bit of distortion coming from the high end and vocals. So I ran the hi fi on very low volume for a good 24 hours on repeat. This smoothed out the sound, obviously a bit of burn in was required. Now the sound is perfect. I am going through my music collection with enthusiasm like when you buy new up graded equipment. Not for one minute did I believe mains cables could make such a substantial difference so I take off my hat to Trevor79 and everyone else who convinced me to at least try. Clearer Audio products are now on my shopping list.

I agree , I was a definate doubter until couple of years ago now bought a RA Yello chord what a difference , To anyone on the fence I would say first before getting conditioners (varied results due to quality of your mains) buy an entry lead from Clearer/RA give it a whirl allow a bit of time for burn in and if you dont notice an inprovement send it back.

Seems like times are changing for the better

May I ask WHAT your argument was if youd never actually tried them before?

Glad youve 'seen the light' so to speak anyways

Thanks for your acknowledgment IDC.

I'm really pleased that you have found the improvements worthwhile.
It's all about getting the enjoyment out of your music because that's what I listen to, not the Hi-Fi!

It's nice to see more people posting on this subject as I don't think many people appreciate the difference a cleaned up mains supply makes.

Trevor, I was talking to an electrician last weekend, regarding getting an additional ring/spur/whatever added where I want all my kit to go, he mentioned something about getting as clean an earth as possible (I think) but is there anything else I can ask for at the installation stage, rather than adding bits on to the supply afterwards?

The_lhc, if you go ahead with this, what chance a post with pictures on the 'Your systems' part of the forum, along the lines of watch me build my home cinema etc. I for one would be very interested and such posts are very popular.

Thanks

Yeah sure thing, at the moment there is no system, I've paid a deposit to hold the TV but at the moment I'm waiting for the guy from the dealer to come over and survey the rooms to see what needs doing, trouble is I'm not available during the week to talk to him and the missus doesn't do "technical stuff", so we're basically waiting for him to come over on a Saturday. I'm in no desperate hurry, the longer he leaves it the longer I've got to save up the rest of the money! As long as I know they've got my TV in the stock room I'm happy.

I'll be adding the Pioneer SC-LX81 amp, one of the Pioneer blu-ray players and an as yet unknown speaker package. Once I've got the infrastructure in place I can change the components as and when. I think I'll be including some upgraded mains cables though, at the very least!

Actually that reminds me I had a question to ask about this...

It is very important to get as good an Earth as possible. Ensure that the Earth point at the Meter and consumer unit is pristine.

Also use 40A wiring for the spur, not 20A as the current will flow
better.
If the spur is going to run close to other house wiring it will improve things if you use shielded cable. Try to keep connections and fuses to a minimum, if possible use circuit breakers instead as they don't strangle high current transient demands.

Rather than having the spur run to a double socket I hard wired into a junction box under the floor and fixed to the wall a Tacima 929 6 plug unit.

Bet you are looking forward to getting everything up and running.

Ok, that's all good stuff to know, thanks. Hopefully it'll be a pretty short run and it won't be leaving the room the consumer unit is in. I did initially ask the sparky for 8 sockets but perhaps that isn't necessary if I get a tacima instead?

Bet you are looking forward to getting everything up and running.

Just looking forward to getting everything full stop at the moment! Never mind the running I'd be happy just to see the boxes in the living room right now! Always seems to be something else getting in the way at the moment.

Having read this chain, and a couple of others - I've just ordered a couple myself (one for the TV and one for the Amp) - I'll let you know my opinion (for what its worth !!) when I've received them and tried them out.

Does anyone know whether the length of cable makes a difference - I've had to order one that is 1.5 metres rather than the normal 1 metre - as its a bit of stretch to the TV

Not over that distance NickyBoy.

I have 2 Clearer Audio Silver Line cables for amp and CDP - they make a big improvemnet to soundstage, clarity and detail.

I am so impressed with the cables I recently ordered a Copper Line Alpha 1.5m for my plasma tv.

I've had the cable for 3 days but I cannot tell any difference compared with the original cable supplied with the tv.

I have now ordered a figure of 8 adaptor for the cable so I can try it on my Sky box and blu ray player. I'll let you know if it makes any difference.

Hello NickyBoy,

There is no difference in terms of performance between a 1m and 1.5m length.

Hope this helps. We look forward to building your cables.

Kind regards,

Darren

Thanks for the reply - I've got a Tuner, Virgin box, PS3 and a Blu-Ray player all under the TV as well, and was wondering whether it would make any difference to these components - I await your verdict with interest.

Disappointed that you can see no difference with the TV, but I'll see for myself shortly.

Thanks for confirming this Darren - I didn't think it would make any difference, but just wanted re-assurance

Hello NickyBoy,

We have lots of customers using the Copper-line Alpha Power Cable on all of the components you list to great effect. As always it is best to try for yourself in your own system to evaluate the performance.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Darren

Hello heystak,

It is unusual that no improvement is seen with a plasma screen. Sometimes it can take a week or so for the power cable to reach optimal performance but an immediate improvement is still usually seen.

Please do let me know how you get on with testing the Sky HD and Blu-ray.

Kind regards,

Darren

Thanks Darren

I will keep the Alpha connected to the plasma for a week and then swap back to the original cable for comparison.

Am I best comparing on a SD signal or HD or doen't it matter? What improvement should I be looking for?

I have received email from you saying the figure of 8 adaptor is on its way so I will test the Sky box and blu ray in the next few days.

As stated before I have Clearer Audio Silver line cables and they have made a big improvement to my 2 channel system.

I have now tried a Copper Line Alpha cable on my plasma tv, bt vision box and blu ray player - I cannot see (or hear) any difference between the Clearer Audio cables and the original cables supplied by the manufacturer.

Hi Darren,

Was looking at the online store for the Clearer Audio Copper Line Alpha power cord and when trying to order, I notice there was an option to choose the fuse rating or no fuse.

So which is the best option? The no fuse option, means that the part that hold the fuse is shorted? Or we have to add our own fuse?

Sorry, a bit confused about this.
