Upgraded most of my mains cables (to cd player, receiver, dvd recorder and blu ray), and have seen/heard a good improvement with each one, but....

Is this a worthwhile upgrade that I will hear a difference with when thinking about adding one to the subwoofer? Or just not worth bothering about?

And what about the tv?

Anyone have experience of this?

I got a Chord SuperScreen cable at the What HiFi show on Sunday for use on my Kef sub. First impressions last night were that the bass was tighter and went lower without getting boomy. Overall I'm happy with the purchase, certainly don't feel that I've wasted my money. I have previously changed my lead on my amp (Denon 2808) but not on any other sources (yet).

I originally purchased a copper-line mains cable for my sub and a silver-line for my TV. I had a problem with the TV in that the 320wattgate adaptor thing wouldnt fit into the back of my TV, so Darren at CA sent me an CopperLineAlpha adaptor to attach the silver line to.

I think mains cables tend to work better on audio components than on visual ones, but yes it does make a difference. Having said that I am going to send my copper-line (subwoofer) and silver line (TV) cables back and replace them with copper-line alpha (although the constraint is more financial than anything else). I think for the price of the copper-line alpha's you cant really go wrong.

My Yamaha sub and AV receiver have a fixed mains cable without ground wire.

Is there any way i can mod this easely and have good results? Anyone?

Your Panny TV may not work with an alternative power lead. I tried one from TM3 and the TV wouldn't power up, presumably because the tangs on the original power lead do more than just hold the cable in place.

I tried the clearer audio mains cable on my tv before,(And is it fit in -just!) but didn't see much difference, which is why i never bought it for it.

I was just wondering if others had seen an improvement and had decided the cost was worth it?

The two new alpha's are on their way (or lost in the postal strike!!!), so I'll try another one with the tv, once I have one on the blu ray and dvd recorder - the tv one might have better results then?

To be honest, i never did get improvements on my plasma with the mains cable i'm most happy about, my picture is allready very good in my opinion. I also didn't try one with my sub as it has a fixed cable without ground wire.

Allthough through my stereo integrated i had the best results with the WireWorld Aurora mains cable so far from the ones i tried. The bass tightened up also with this power conditioning cord. It was a remarkable difference and maybe it will for your sub to, i don't know, but room placement is more important then that. Try one if you can.

Yes, you can cut the mains cable about 4 inches from the sub or receiver, and then add a male IEC connector like this:

Then buy the Clearer audio alpha mains cable that will fit into the male side already fitted. I did that to my CDP, and fantastic results.

But warned, though, as the improvement is not as obvious with av receivers, but more with 'source' components.

Hope that helps....

I have just used one of my Clearer Audio alpha mains cables on my sub....wow, what a difference.

I totally agree with you on this one NSYGrinner........lower and much more definition to the bass producted. Again, the boom and muddled bass has been exchanged with a real 'punch' to it.

Another good upgrade, and proof that mains cables do work........
