I was in sevenoaks yeovil branch this afternoon, inquiring about upgrading my meridian A500's, as i feel they dont deliver enough in a 26ft living room. So i have a (very quick) listen to a pair of monitor audio silver RS6's, which i liked. but before long i found myself asking about the speaker cable he was using in his dem room, which was chord epic, priced at £40/m
(i currently use ortofon SPK 5000 multistrand)

Bearing in mind That I gave a budget of £1500 he also showed me a pair of MA GS20's which were priced at £1700 which looked lovley! So if they sound as good as they look......

So my questions are:

1. What do you think of these 2 pairs of speakers? Would they be a justifiable upgrade from the A500's?
2. Speaker cables- My system is biamped, so am I correct is assuming that the chord epic do a bi wire/biamp version? I need 2x2m runs.
3. How would the above compare to kimber's 8VS or 8 TC for example? Would the chord be a significant upgrade from the ortofon?

My system comprimises of
meridian 508 CD player
meridian 501 preamp
meridian 555 poweramps (x2)
panasonic dmp30 blu-ray player
panasonic pz81 plasma

The interconnects between CD player and preamp is Kimber crystal AG(which im over the moon with!)
Everything else is chord cobra, purchased in may 1995

Kiber silver streak is connecting the plasma to preamp, with kimber mains leads and power blocks throughout.

Any thoughts?

If you like the RS6's I would have a listen to the RS8's. They would have a better presence given your room size. IMO that would be a better upgrade for your system.

I am a fan of Kimber products, have been using them for many years.
Currently running 8TC on the mid/high and using QED SA on the bass
(RS8's), works very well. Only you can tell which sound better.

My god! A reply! LOL....

No, serioulsy, Thanks trevor.

I took time out and spent an afternoon in sevenoaks' dem room and had a listen the the RS8's, which had very nice tonal balance, but i did find their timing *ever so slightly behind on pacey songs i.e. Amy McDonald's "Mr Rock n' Roll", but thats such a minor point .

They also brought up a pair off GS20's for me to listen to, and by now we were singing! Offered me a good price as well!

FTR Sevenoaks Yeovil had chord epic as their dem room cable.

Yes, I know what you mean Re pace/timing.
I found this was down to the Monitor Audio crossover 'in house' caps that they used. I replaced mine with Clarity Caps SA (which meant soldering them in as a direct replacement) which transformed them.
More detailed, rhythmic, musical. All for around £50 of parts!

Perhaps they would knock the Golds off their perch if MA did this.
Superb mod that puts them in a totally different class.

PS, had for years a Meridian 207 CD upgraded by Russ Andrews along with Roger LS6 speakers, lovely.

The Kimber 8TC or 4TC is excellent cable and many hail it to be a much more natural sounding, reasonably priced alternative to the Chord offerings. I think the commonly described difference by Kimber lovers is that Chord cables (allegedly) have a harsher top end. I love my Chord and would heartily recommend Odyssey 4.
