Hi everyone,

I have a Rotel 1550 pre amp,1070 power amp & 1070 CD player.

I sold my epos m16 speakers as i wanted smaller stand mount speakers and now have some PMC Db1s+ .

I now seem to be very close to the type of sound i like but would like a little less forward sounding set up. I think thats the right word,It just sounds a bit harsh and in your face on occasion.

I am considering yet another change of speaker, probably to spendor as all the comments on these point to a smoother sound but am now wondering if i should go for a change of amp or CD player to get the desired sound and keep the PMCs.

A shop demo is not possible because of work commitments so any advise would be most welcome.

All cabling is Van den hul

Cheers in advance.

I wouldn't think the speakers are problematic. Although not heard you're particular models of Rotel, they can be a little forward. However, in saying that, the Rotel is typically a chunky sounding amp or amps in your case.

I'm thinking about speaker stands and cables - which ones do you have? The PMC is a wonderful speaker and sounded neutral when I tested them 3 months ago. But as with all top-notch speakers they need a really good stand; also thinking about room acoustics as well. You can change the sound quite dramatically on positioning and the disposition of carpets and/or rugs.

I would certainly check these out before committing to different electronics or speakers.

Cables are first ultimate from cd to pre amp & the second from pre to power amp.

Speaker cable is CS122 bi wired &stands are Kudos, filled with sand.

The room is quite small at 3.5m 3m.Carpeted and lots of furniture.

I don't know if more running in of the speakers will help as they haven't had much playing time or even if they will change for the better after doing so.Do speakers generally get brighter or more laid back with running in ?

Right - sorry, I wasn't aware the speakers were new. In that case, yes! Generally speaking speakers when new can sound edgy and fairly course in the treble. I normally run in speakers almost constantly, during daylight hours, for about two weeks before you start noticing the difference.

But certainly Rotel and PMC sounds like a really good combo.
