Can't believe it was 18 months since I posted this up:

http://www.whathifi.com/forum/hi-fi/cd-player-v-computer-based-music and it all kicked it off a bit.

Now, with the CD8x beginning to skip, I've made a start on ripping my CDs with a view to potentially getting a streamer and DAC (toying with the idea of Squeezebox Touch + either the Rega DAC or the new Audiolab CD Player).

There are plenty of Streamer advocates out there but has anyone actually regretted doing it or thought it was a backward step?

Currently listening to: Glenn Hughes - The Way It Is

....if they think that, they went with the wrong streamer. :)

FWIW I was so impressed with the Cyrus Streamline, that I put it forward as my "readers choice" submission......and I normally don't like Cyrus! It was playing through some Linn standmounts.

Linn were so confident that their DS tech was superior, that they stopped production of their CDPs. IMO they were right, as their Sneaky was at least as good as their Akurate CDP.

As for my own case, imo the Majik DS is as good as a high end CDP.
