I currently use my blu ray player to play my CDs or use Apple TV for music (all through a Denon 2310 AVR)

If i was to add a separate CDP (budget 200-300), would i hear a major improvement or would i need a stereo amp as well?

I presume i could use my B+W 684s with a stereo amp and the Denon if i went that route? (not at the same time obviously!)

Thanks

IMO I dont think you'd hear much difference by adding a stand alone CDP.

You could though look to go down the DAC route and power your front speakers with an added stereo integrated or power amp just powering your front speakers

I'd agree. I think the best upgrade to your system would be a DAC - which would improve the music quality from the Apple TV no end, and will benefit stereo sound from the Pioneer,

The Denon has got pre-outs, so you could connect a stereo power amp to these and connect the front speaker to these and have the Denon power the rest of the speakers. Alternatively, as you've got a couple of spare channels, you could bi-amp the front pair, which for the price of a couple of extra speaker cables should improve stereo music enormously, especially when combined with an external DAC.

As for Dacs' I'm not really up to speed with these but the C/A DacMagic, Musical Fidelity V-DAC and the Beresford Caiman always seem to get rave reviews 🙂

With regards to an additional stereo power amp; something along the lines of an Arcam Alpha 8P or 9P would suffice IMO. They're usually found on eBay and will fit into the system well.
