CD Player upgrade from Yamaha CDR 1500

I was thinking of getting a new CD player with a budget of £500 max to add to my set up. I have B&W 685s and a Rotel Amplifier along with the Yamaha CDR 1500 which works fine however as this was my first proper CD player I don't really have a comparison to anything else & I was wondering if it was worth upgrading with the budget I have? Will there be much difference?

One of the supposed benefits of the Yamaha was that copies from it often apparently sounded better than the originating CD. How this compares to some of the current £500 crop or the best used kit in the same budget, well, that may be a different thing.

I actually bought it for transferring my records to CD but not doing much of that anymore & was looking at just a stand alone CD player but if the quality is going to be the same I may as well stick to what I have got.
