hi there!

I have a stupid question, the USB input in front of the mini hi-fi, can I use a USB cable to connect it with my PC, and use the mini system as my external harddisk?

I know some cd players like audiolab 8000CDQ can use as both CDP and USB DAC. But since I use it in my bedroom, I cannot afford to use so a large and expensive gear. Is there any CD player that is compact sized, and can be used as USB DAC? Thanks !

I don't think you can use a mini-system as an external hard disk, as it doesn't have a hard-disk!

And it's unilkely that such systems will have the required software built-in for the computer to recognise them as an audio output device, which is how products such as the Audiolab do what they do. The USB inputs on systems are usually designed only to 'see' portable storage devices, such as USB thumbdrives and iPods and the like.

The way round this would be to use an external DAC with a USB input for a computer, and feed its analogue output into your system's 'aux in' or 'tape in' sockets.

The alternative cheap option, just use the headphone out of the pc into the "AUX in".

Or as Andrew says, a DAC between the PC and amp.

thanks all, actually I typed it wrongly

I mean use the mini system as my external soundcard instead of harddisk

I try to try some USB DAC then, thanks
