Had the proacs response d two, for 6 days, with around of 20-30hrs of play on them . Cannot believe the difference in Bass extension in just 6 days. The difference is amazing. Today I checked weather the Subwoofer was on.. but it was off! The midrange didnt change much, but the difference in Bass is big. Also noted that the treble is a little bit smoother, but that maybe because I listened with the grills on.

How long for a proper break-in, Will the sound change much more in the future?

They probably change (subtly) for the life time of the speaker. Comes a point where you won't necesseraly notice though unless your hearing is supernatural. You've noticed I said 'change' rather than 'improve'. There's an argument speakers deteriorate rather than improve with age, not so unlikely as there are mechanical forces at work.

... brings me to a particular pair of speakers I had, from new. Loved the sound straight out of the box. Problem was they loosened up to an extend that I ended up with a disjointed sound and flabby bass. That was'nt of course necesseraly the speakers fault but I sold them anyhow.

I loved the midrange of these proacs as they came out of the box... hope it doesnt change for worse with time! The bass was another story.. It sounded dull out of the box. Now it sounds deep and thight, ubelievable bass from such a small speaker.

They normally change at the frequency extremes, most drastically the bass unit, to a lesser extend the tweeter. The middle, whilst not escaping, will be least affected.

Cables on the other hand, take years to burn in ... ;-)

Nice speakers.

Glad to hear they are working out well for you. I love getting new gear myself and hearing it improve over the first number of hours.

It`s unblievable.. At first I thought that breaking-in was a myth! Even now i`m not 100% sure and think that maybe my mind is playing tricks on me hehe but the difference is so obvious!

The biggest improvement is the first 5-10 hours, but some speakers will take a good 50-100 hours to fully run in. It can take ages, but all of a sudden, you just know they're fully run in, they just sound 'right'.

We've been running in the Spendor S3/5R's, and have our Monitor Audio Platinum PL300's to run in too - and today the ProAc Studio 140.2's and Spendor S9's turned up!! We need to get a shift on before the PMC Fact 8's turn up......

Why dont speakers manufactures run in the speakers at the factory? It will be easier to demo a pair of speakers.

The proacs took around 20-25 hours to sound good, and i`m really pleased with the purchase.

Sorta off topic, but I got sold an amazing deal from dave on the R370HD.

The first few songs and movies sounded worse than my 50.00 subwoofer, then all of a sudden, played some big pimpin and some rap and then some rock and GI Joe and Batman.

Then all of a sudden I could hear subtle bass sounds and then was watching public enemies on blu ray and a train came into the station and my room shook and did a serious 360 from front to rear.

My mate and I almost ****** ourselves.

I believe in breaking in,

I don't think you need to worry about the sound changing for the worse, I reckon you have got yourself a pair of speakers for life.

I've been running a set of Proacs for ten years or so now and I am still as happy with them today as I was when I bought them, they are a real long term purchase (just a tablette as well, nothing as grand as a response).

I do too now that I experiened it

Frank,

Have you measured the frequency response of the speakers when brand new, and after one week, to see how much change took place?

Indeed, and how many mugs have bought that little nugget, hook, line and sinker?!
